We give students the first two weeks of the semester to decide on whether to audit or take a class pass/no credit. Once that time is passed, whatever grade mode they’ve opted for stands for the rest of the term.

We allow the switch during the add period. After the add deadline they can petition and make a case for an exception.

I received a new question/scenario this week, and I am hoping that some of you will be able to provide me with some insight.

Have you had any of your students (or do you have a policy) enroll in a class in the beginning of the semester, then request to change that class to an audited class for the rest of the semester? We have language prohibiting the opposite from taking place (a student can't audit first, then try to get enrolled for a grade), but nothing on this.

If you have any experience or language regarding this, would you be able and willing to share it with me?

If your school prohibits this, are you able to explain why?

Potential obstacles to navigate that I foresee relate to financial aid, and the school's refund policy (if done within our add/drop window close to beginning of semester).
