[Heb-NACO] Yiddish cataloging

Althougt not codified or proscriptive, it is very helpful to add "partially vocalized" if the entire text or "title page partially vocalized" for Yiddish works. Especially in the cases when the provided romanization varies from that found in Weinrich or other normative dictionaries.

I always include the original script for Yiddish as well as Hebrew materials. I have seen records both with and without nekudot (which don’t always appear in Yiddish materials). I always delete them as they don’t display properly in our system and might mess up the indexing as well. I don’t put in a note.

Is there anyone in the group who does cataloging of materials in Yiddish? Yiddish uses selected nikud, such as under the aleph in certain words. It would be incorrect to spell a Yiddish word without this. Hebrew materials, on the other hand, usually appear without nekudot. Even when a title is vocalized, we transcribe it when we catalog it without the vocalization and put in a 500 note that says: "Title vocalized", etc. Would we do the same with Yiddish? E.g. the word "Amerikaner" -- would we enter the Yiddish script unvocalized and add a note? Or is there a keyboard or program one can get for use with Yiddish cataloging that provides selected nekudot (my Hebrew keyboard does not have any nekudot)? Or are Yiddish language materials always cataloged in romanization only (no Yiddish script used)?
Thanks
