Here's a curious point relating to my question whether there were any
changes in the third impression of The Waves. Gillian Beer's 1992 Oxford
World's Classics edition says that the third impression (the "Uniform
Edition") corrects typos in the first - and she identifies two: "for
example, p. 24 [of her edition], 'when Percy fires at the rocks' is
corrected to 'when Percy fired at the rooks'; p. 76, 'an alien' to 'am
alien'". But this is very puzzling, because both the readings that she
says are corrected in the third impression are already present in their
correct in the first edition, and "rocks" and "an alien" do not occur in
the first edition where she says they do.

But it does seem at least possible that the third impression has some
changes from the first, even if not the one that Gillian Beer mentions.
The first impression has on p. 90 "as I pull the blanket off his feet";
Gillian Beer's and David Bradshaw's edition (each claiming to be printed
from the 1933 third impression) have "blankets" not "blanket". This
variant is not noted in the Cambridge edition, which claims to record
variants from 1933, so - not having a copy of 1933 to hand - I wonder
whether this variant might in fact have been introduced in the 1943 edition.

If any list member has a copy of 1933 and can clarify this, I'll be
grateful, though of course I know I'm obliged to find a copy of that
third impression for myself.
