Perhaps specialists on the Virginia Woolf List may have some information, or response, to this query:

I am attempting to sort out a new acquisition of mine — a photograph of Virginia Woolf with her parents, 1890s;
here is an image from the Smith College Library website, quite similar to my photograph:
< https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.smith.edu/libraries/libs/rarebook/exhibitions/stephen/38h.htm__;!!KGKeukY!mDcUluxv_eSJ0Yj2exkiqAATFpRe1_mlFQi5jig3Ush51vzZLhW1_b7I6WfJQrogcS4$  >

This item, now in my possession, comes from respected New York bookseller, Glenn Horowitz, and was part
of the Stella Duckworth-Jack Hills papers now at NYPL. Maggie Humm, in her Snapshots of Bloomsbury (2006),
reproduces the image from a print in the Monk’s House album at Harvard, and says that the photograph was
taken by Vanessa Bell in 1892. Elizabeth P. Richardson, in A Bloomsbury Iconography (1989), does not attribute the
photograph to a particular person, but indicates a date of 1893, based on the ms. contents list in Leslie Stephen’s
album (Smith College).

>From the Hyde Park Gate News, we learn that for her birthday on 30 May 1892, Stella Duckworth was
given a “camera machine” which she took to Talford House for the summer / early autumn holidays.
This suggests that Stella was the photographer, not Vanessa.

Would any specialists on the Virginia Woolf List have any insight into these uncertaities of date and photographer,
or thoughts on sources and perhaps others to query?

Normally, Woolf, indeed Bloomsbury in general, is not within the scope of the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection;
however, considering that all in the photograph were writers of the 1890s (though Virginia was not yet published), how
could this Victoriana collector resist?

Incidentally, U of Delaware has a nearly complete Hogarth Press collection, formed by the press’s bibliographer, Howard Woolmer.

Kindly reply to either of my email accounts, below, and with special thanks to < Maureen E. Mulvihill> for coordinating this query,
MSL
