“Lafayette’s was a Society studio that had photographed the Ethiopian delegation on its visit for the coronation of Edward VII in 1902.”

You will recall that Edward VII’s coronation had to be postponed on account of his appendicitis operation: from 26 June to 9 August.  Consequently, all the European royalties left:

“there remained of all the foreign representatives and their suites, only the Special Mission from Abyssinia.  The Coronation procession ... consisted almost entirely of Imperial and Colonial deputations and thus took on, in Lord Rosebery’s tactful phrase, ‘something of the character of a family festival’.”
