[Vwoolf] Woolf Google doodle

Great discussion, everyone. Today is also the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul. That's a delicious irony, given Woolf's critique of St Paul and his lasting influence on patriarchal thinking in Three Guineas, the text for which she collected 'enough powder to blow up St Pauls' (D4 77).

Good morning, all,

I agree that the likeness on Google isn't great (although I think we've all seen far worse), but as Drew says, isn't it wonderful that millions upon millions of people will see an image of Woolf today. Even if just a handful grow curious and look her up, it's a victory.

(It's Robert Burns' birthday, too!)

Best,

Kristin

My two cents: The image doesn't bother me at all, and even if it were awful (which I don't think it is), I for one am thrilled that Google chose to honor Woolf in this way. Given all of the rampant, flaming, corrosive, ruinous stupidity in the U.S. at the moment, I feel that if even a handful of people hover over Woolf's image and are encouraged to find out a little bit more about her...that's good enough for me.

The image is terrible! And why the leaves? Also, compared to other Google doodles, this one does not invite curiosity or even interest, as though no one cared enough to put any effort into it.

I hope this isn't a repeat, but has anyone noticed the "Google doodle" of the day? Attached is a screenshot. Hovering the mouse over the image on Google.com reveals "Virginia Woolf's 136th birthday."

Thoughts on the image? The leaves?

Michael
