Hi Mark, Greg, and All,

Auden agreed with Mendelson that Woolf was among the major modernists: he
included VW on his syllabi when he taught at northeast colleges in the
1950s, and reviewing *A Writer's Diary *in the New Yorker he praised VW as
conceivably Bloomsbury's only "poet." He also included several VW quotes in
his commonplace book and quoted her admiringly in interviews.
More on Woolf and Auden is in my short book with Cecil Woolf
Publishers, *Virginia
Woolf and the Thirties Poets*.
Hope this helps bolster the upright image of Auden Mendelson details in
the NYRB article!

Best,
Emily
