*1) *The* NIH Summer Institute for Research Education in Biostatistics
(R25) *program funds "summer courses summer courses in biomedical
statistics for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students in
order to encourage them to pursue careers in biostatistics." From the
funding announcement (
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HL-16-017.html):

Specifically, this FOA will enhance the training of quantitatively oriented
students to encourage them to pursue advanced degrees in
biostatistics-related fields for a career in biomedical and biostatistical
research. To accomplish the stated goal, this FOA will support the
following integrated educational activities with a primary focus on:

   - *Courses for Skills Development* in the principles and methods of
contemporary biostatistics as employed in biomedical research today,
incorporating hands-on research experiences and mentoring activities to
introduce the participants to careers in biostatistical research.

With this FOA, NHLBI invites applications for grants to develop, conduct,
and evaluate summer courses in the principles and methods of contemporary
biostatistics as employed in biomedical research. The term “biostatistics”
is used in the broad sense, including statistical genetics, bioinformatics,
and data science. The courses should cover the fundamental concepts of
probability, statistical reasoning, and inferential methods motivated, in
part, by examples that include data collected in studies of heart, lung,
blood, and sleep disorders. Applicants can choose certain aspects of
biostatistics for more in-depth introduction depending on the strength and
expertise of their faculty. The courses will be taught during the summers
of 2016, 2017, and 2018 with appropriate modifications or refinements
following the first and second summer sessions.

Awards are up to $235,000/year in direct costs for 3 years. Letter of
Intent is due May 1, and full proposals are due June 1.

*3) OSU Scholarship of Engagement Travel Grants: *The Offices of
Service-Learning, Research, and Outreach and Engagement are offering small

travel to present their scholarly work at conferences or participate in
workshops that advance the scholarship of engagement across teaching and
research (http://outreach.osu.edu/newslist-items/travelgrants2015.html).
