1) NIH has reissued the announcement for its *Blueprint Program for
Enhancing Neuroscience Diversity through Undergraduate Research Education
Experiences (R25)* program (
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-NS-14-010.html):
The goal of this NIH Blueprint R25 program is to support educational
activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and
clinical research workforce. To this end, this funding opportunity
announcement encourages the development of creative educational activities
with a primary focus on Research Experiences, Courses for Skills
Development, and Mentoring Activities.

The fully integrated research experiences, courses for skills development,
and mentoring activities should prepare undergraduate students from diverse
backgrounds nationally underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral
sciences to enter Ph.D. degree programs in the neurosciences. To
accomplish this goal, this initiative will provide institutional awards to
develop neuroscience research education programs consisting of
collaborative partnerships integrated across different educational
institution types. Each collaborative research education partnership must
have the following components: a) a research-intensive institution that has
an established neuroscience or neuroscience-related program, b) partnership
between institution(s) that have a substantial enrollment of undergraduates
from populations nationally underrepresented in the biomedical and
behavioral sciences, c) integrated curriculum/academic enhancement and
research training activities designed to increase participants' preparation
to enter doctoral programs in the neurosciences, and d) well-described
plans to provide early communication and interaction between participating
students and graduate neuroscience programs across the country.
Letters of intent are due April 28 and full proposals are due May 28.
Projects may not exceed 5 years. As for the budget..."Although the size of
award may vary with the scope of the research education program proposed
and there are no specific budget limitations, the requested direct costs
must be reasonable, well documented, fully justified and commensurate with
the scope of the proposed program."

2) You may have heard that the *NSF Research on Education and Learning
(REAL)* program is not part of the President's budget request to Congress.
It sounds like the REAL program will be folded into the *NSF EHR Core
Research (ECR) program* (
http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=504924) and that a new ECR
funding announcement will appear this summer. The current ECR announcement
has a proposal date of February 5, 2015, but there may be an Autumn 2014
deadline date instead.
