*1) US ED IES deadlines: *With today's close of application submissions to
the first round of US Department of Education's Institute of Education
Sciences Research and Research Training Grant

*3) Upcoming US ED "Promise Neighborhoods" RFP release:* According to a June
21 update to the US Department of Education website, "Our current goal is to
have applications for Promise Neighborhoods available within 2-4 weeks and
be due within 60 days of application release."

*4) Proposed changes to NSF "Broader Impacts":* Love it or hate it, people
often have strong feelings about the National Science Foundation "Broader
Impacts" merit review criterion. The National Science Board is accepting
public comment <http://www.nsf.gov/nsb/publications/2011/06_mrtf.jsp>through
July 14 on their proposed changes.

*5) NSF CAREER Outreach Workshop video:* The April outreach workshop for
prospective Ohio State applicants to NSF's Faculty Early Career Development
(CAREER) program included an overview of OSU resources for education
outreach and recruitment of REU students from underrepresented groups, as
well as extended presentations by representatives of COSI (http://cosi.org/)
and the Ohio House of Science and Engineering (
http://ohse.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/) on how faculty can collaborate with
