The Department provides the following cautionary comments and recommendations in preparation for an extended 3-day weekend with corresponding severe weather forecasts:
Comments:
1.) As temperatures approach -4 deg F (-20 deg C), the risk of an unplanned lab-side air handler shutdown increases due to freeze protection systems inherent to the equipment.
2.) OSU Maintenance staff coverage on weekends is limited. Extended weekends and difficult road conditions for commuting staff exacerbate this condition.
Recommendations:
1.) To the extent practical, avoid initiating processes in fume hoods involving significant chemistries. Users will know best how to define significant.
2.) Avoid using the liquid nitrogen filling station (LADS) in fully unattended mode. Filling can proceed as needed, but users are advised to actively monitor the filling cycle.
3.) Avoid initiating specific experiments that are long in time span and critically dependent on environmental stability (temperature/humidity/air flow).
4.) Remember that building problems can be reported at any time to the Service2Facilities service desk by calling 2-HELP (4357) or 614.292-4357.
