Hi everyone,

As you know, ALMA (https://almascience.nrao.edu/) is a major US national facility doing science on planet formation, galaxy evolution, cosmology, and everything in between. ALMA is intended as an instrument for ALL astronomers. In an effort to encourage wide use of ALMA, NRAO runs the "ALMA Ambassadors" program, in which postdoctoral scholars trained by NRAO on ALMA proposal writing across the country. Angus Mok (Toledo) and I will be trained as ALMA Ambassadors for Ohio area.

We plan to host a one-day proposal workshop to inform any interested people here about proposing and using ALMA. This event is open to astronomers/physicists (students, postdoc, staff, and faculty) nearby Columbus/Toledo. We will particularly aim the event at those who are not familiar with radio data but are interested to use ALMA for their research. Radio experts are also very welcome to join, to tell others about their research using ALMA, to hear about the current ALMA capabilities, and to help other participants during hands-on tutorial.

Registration is free with a free lunch. The exact agenda is still in preparation but is likely to include:

- Morning session:

* an overview of recent ALMA capabilities,
* brief discussion of interferometry fundamentals,
* a few ALMA research highlights.

- Afternoon session:

* discussions of proposal preparation, proposal tools, the submission process,
* a tutorial on using the CASA software to reduce and image interferometric data.

To proceed with the planning, we need to know the level of interest and availability of those who would like to participate. Therefore, if you’re interested, please fill in this simple docs<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JtJhVE9TzqOSwavQNofeWAXqeQHb355uU3yC06Fs9eE/edit?usp=sharing> with your availability before the end of next week (Jan 25). This is not a commitment yet, as you still need to register later on, but it will help us to plan the scope of the workshop.

Thank you,
ALMA Ambassadors 2019
Dyas Utomo & Angus Mok
