[OACRAO] Latin honors and residency

Ginny,

At Xavier University transfer students with appropriate grade point averages are eligible for honors at graduation if they have completed at least 60 quality hours at Xavier University for a bachelor’s degree or at least 30 quality hours at Xavier University for an associate’s degree. Hi there,
Do you have a residency requirement for awarding Latin Honors? If so, how many hours are required to be earned at your institution?

Our general residency requirement has decreased over the years from 60 now to 30, but we have kept the Latin Honor residency at 42 for as long as anyone can remember. This weekend we had several transfer students contesting their Latin honor designations prior to commencement. They would earn the 42 hours after this semester. But since we base our commencement Latin honors are the previous semester, they were not happy.  I’m just wondering if it’s time to re-examine ours.
