Audit: An "AU" is recorded on a student's permanent record when a student audits a class. When auditing a course, the student pays full tuition and attends for informational instruction only, understanding that no credit may be earned or claimed later. The student is not required to submit assignments or take examinations, although this participation will help the student gain knowledge of the subject.
The "AU" grade is not included in the cumulative grade point average and does not apply to graduation. Audit status forms are available in the Student Records Office. Students may change an audit status to credit status before the end of the second week of classes. Students wishing to change from credit status to audit status may also do so before the end of the second week of classes.

Our students have until the last day to add a class to change a grade option, which is usually the 8th day of the term. This policy was set by Academic Senate and it is strictly enforced.

We give students the first two weeks of the semester to decide on whether to audit or take a class pass/no credit. Once that time is passed, whatever grade mode they’ve opted for stands for the rest of the term.

We allow the switch during the add period. After the add deadline they can petition and make a case for an exception.

Have you had any of your students (or do you have a policy) enroll in a class in the beginning of the semester, then request to change that class to an audited class for the rest of the semester? We have language prohibiting the opposite from taking place (a student can't audit first, then try to get enrolled for a grade), but nothing on this.
If you have any experience or language regarding this, would you be able and willing to share it with me?
If your school prohibits this, are you able to explain why?
Potential obstacles to navigate that I foresee relate to financial aid, and the school's refund policy (if done within our add/drop window close to beginning of semester).
