[OACRAO] [EXTERNAL SENDER] Diplomas and commencement

We hand out Diploma covers with congratulations note on stage.  Since grades are not due until after the ceremony, actual diplomas are sent to all students once all requirements both financial and other to the College are met.  The final review process, ordering of diplomas, and mailing is usually completed about 4 weeks after ceremony.

We do not offer certificate programs.

We are looking into making a few changes with regards to our diplomas and commencement ceremony and wanted to reach out to see what other institution's practices were.  We are a 2-yr college and in addition to associate degrees, we also have one-year certificates that students can earn either along with their 2-yr degree or just on their own.  Here are the questions I have:


1.      For institutions that do not hand out the actual diplomas at commencement, what is given to students (if anything) as they cross the stage?

2.      For institutions who award one-year certificates, if a student has only earned a certificate are they allowed to participate in commencement ceremony?

a.      If so, is their certificate handed to them as they cross the stage?

                                                    i.     If no, what is given as the student crosses the stage?
