[OACRAO] Diplomas and commencement

At COTC we hand out empty diploma covers on stage.  Then we give them their diplomas after they exit the auditorium and before they return to their staging/robing rooms, if they have met all financial obligations and completed their exit counseling.

One year certificate as well as associate degree earners are eligible to participate in commencement.  In-house or short-term certificate earners are not.

Subject: [OACRAO] Diplomas and commencement

We are looking into making a few changes with regards to our diplomas and commencement ceremony and wanted to reach out to see what other institution's practices were.  We are a 2-yr college and in addition to associate degrees, we also have one-year certificates that students can earn either along with their 2-yr degree or just on their own.  Here are the questions I have:


  1.  For institutions that do not hand out the actual diplomas at commencement, what is given to students (if anything) as they cross the stage?
  2.  For institutions who award one-year certificates, if a student has only earned a certificate are they allowed to participate in commencement ceremony?
     *   If so, is their certificate handed to them as they cross the stage?

                                                               i.      If no, what is given as the student crosses the stage?
