[OACRAO] Diplomas and commencement

Capital University (Main Campus) hands out the diploma cover with a congratulation message.  The students can pick up their diploma immediately following the ceremony who have met financial obligations. We also mail out the diplomas by request for those that choose not want to pick them up after the ceremony.

Question:  Does everyone print their diplomas in-house?

We are looking into making a few changes with regards to our diplomas and commencement ceremony and wanted to reach out to see what other institution's practices were.  We are a 2-yr college and in addition to associate degrees, we also have one-year certificates that students can earn either along with their 2-yr degree or just on their own.  Here are the questions I have:


1.      For institutions that do not hand out the actual diplomas at commencement, what is given to students (if anything) as they cross the stage?

2.      For institutions who award one-year certificates, if a student has only earned a certificate are they allowed to participate in commencement ceremony?

a.      If so, is their certificate handed to them as they cross the stage?

                                                    i.     If no, what is given as the student crosses the stage?
