I agree that classical-style literature 舊體文學 in Hong Kong should be well
represented in any comprehensive history of Hong Kong literature. It
should also be pointed out that old style-literature thrived and developed
well beyond 1919. There has been a very lively scene of shi詩 and ci詞
throughout the 20th century, and even today. Influential poetry clubs (詩社
,詞社) were founded in Hong Kong in mid-20th century Hong Kong and beyond.
One such ci club 詞社 is 堅社 in the 1950s. The question of modern
literature’s
continuity with tradition should be addressed. Old-style poetry written
in 20th century Hong Kong is an exemplary case.

Unfortunately, because of the lack of attention to this vast area of Hong
Kong literature, much of Hong Kong poetry is disappearing and being lost.
Thanks to recent efforts, there have been good anthologies that attempt to
preserve this chapter of Hong Kong’s literary history. Below are some
titles in the last ten years or so.

Perhaps list members may also find this book useful, although it focuses
on the fiction in Hong Kong.
