About MCLC

The MCLC Resource Center (http://mclc.osu.edu/) and Modern Chinese Literature and Culture (http://mclc.osu.edu/jou/mclc.htm) sponsor this email listserv devoted to scholarly and more general discussion of the culture of twentieth and twenty-first century China (encompassing Taiwan and Hong Kong), including literature, film and media, popular culture, material culture, performing and visual arts. The MCLC LIST welcomes scholars, graduate students, journalists, and others whose interest in Chinese culture may not be academic. Subscribers may submit messages in the form of (among other things): queries to the list; reviews of recent books, films, plays, or television programs; comments on research in progress; discussion of problems or issues related to the teaching of Chinese culture; announcements of relevant scholarly and cultural activities; newspaper articles related to cultural and social issues; etc. We especially welcome comments about and critiques of articles published in recent issues of the journal Modern Chinese Literature and Culture, MCLC Resource Center publications and book reviews. You can also follow the MCLC LIST on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/MCLClist)

This list is moderated, which means that messages you send will be screened by the list "owner," Kirk A. Denton. Individual subscribers, however, are responsible for the content, accuracy, and relevance of their messages. We hope that subscribers take care in what they say and how they say it and that civility is always upheld. Postings should be addressed to the list.

ETIQUETTE:
1. List members are responsible for posting messages that are appropriate for the list in terms of topic, scholarly depth, and tone. Members should also strive for factual accuracy. The list owner reserves the right not to post messages he deems inappropriate. Members must also determine, in responding to list queries and messages, when to write to the list as a whole and when to write to the original message sender. The original sender's email is usually given at the head of the message.

2. Questions to the list will often be in the form of requests for sources. These sorts of queries are certainly acceptable, but we ask that you first check for sources yourselves through the MCLC Resource Center (http://mclc.osu.edu/).

3. REPLIES to list messages go back to the list owner for screening, not to the original poster of the message. If you want to send a message only to the original sender, do not use the reply function.

4. Be sure to preface your own particular subject with "MCLC:" so that members can tell a list message from other emails in their inboxes. Your subject line should look like this (for example): MCLC: Chen Kaige's latest film.

5. If responding to a message posted a while back, you might need to include in the body of your message something to remind the list of the original topic.

6. When writing a message to the list, please address the list as a whole and not any particular individual whose remarks you may be responding to.

7. Always add your name to the end of the message. Institutional affiliations are optional.

8. Keep your tone civil and respectful. In responding to a particular posting, please avoid making personal attacks and focus instead on the issues.
