Call for Applications for 2013-2014 Academic Year

 
 
The Center for the Pacific Rim at the University of San Francisco is
pleased to announce the call for applicants for the ³Asia Pacific:
Perspectives² Co-editor Kiriyama Fellowship (AY 2013-2014).

 
The University of San Francisco¹s Center for the Pacific Rim is a leader
in bridging the Asia Pacific region through programs that promote
research, teaching and public programs.  The Center for the Pacific Rim
oversees and is the primary administrative office for Asia Pacific:
Perspectives. 

 
Asia Pacific:  Perspectives:
Asia Pacific:  Perspectives (ISSN: 2167-1699) is a peer-reviewed
electronic journal published by the University of San Francisco Center for
the Pacific Rim. It welcomes submissions from all fields of the social
sciences and the humanities with relevance to the Asia Pacific/Pacific Rim
with an emphasis on papers adopting a comparative, interdisciplinary
approach to issues of interrelatedness across the Pacific.

 
Responsibilities:
The fellow¹s responsibilities will be:
·      20 hours/week co-editorship of Asia Pacific:  Perspectives
·      Remainder of time to be spent pursing academic research on a topic
in the field of East Asian Studies, especially border crossing and
transnational topics.
 
The fellow will be expected to:
·      Serve as co-editor of Asia Pacific:  Perspectives along with the
current USF faculty co-editor
·      Solicit and help select papers for the journal
·      Assist in finding peer reviewers for submitted papers
·      Work with the managing editor of the journal to ensure timely
publication of the issue
·      Produce one co-edited issue of the journal during one-year term as
fellow
·      Interact productively with the Center for the Pacific Rim, USF
faculty and students by taking part in Center activities throughout the
year and presenting his/her research in Center seminars/workshops and/or
the Center¹s graduate courses
 

Eligibility:
Candidates must have a PhD in the field of Asian Studies (social sciences
and the humanities) at the time of the appointment.
Open to applicants of all ranks including senior scholars who may wish to
spend a sabbatical year at USF.   Preference is for candidates who have
published widely and have numerous contacts in the field and who have
experience in editing an online journal.
 

Fellows must be in residence for the duration of the 9 month appointment
(August 1, 2013­ May 31, 2014 and on campus during the regular workday
subject to standard university and national holidays).
 
Appointment is for 9 months, with the possibility of renewal for a second
term.

·      Curriculum vitae
·      5-10 page double-spaced description of proposed research and
deliverable
outcomes for the year, including the contribution the research
would make in the relevant field(s) and to the USF Center for the Pacific
Rim and Asia Pacific:  Perspectives¹ mission and focus
·      Financial support, indicating specifics of support requested (line
items with dollar amounts) and any external funding applicant may have
·      Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from
a scholar outside the applicant¹s home institution.
