Association of Chinese and Comparative Literature (ACCL)
Looking for Candidates for Presidency

We are now inviting interested scholars in Chinese literary, cultural and
comparative studies to put their names forward or nominate others for the
position of President of ACCL. If you nominate someone, please first
secure her or his consent to run.

Process:

We will solicit nominees for at minimum a few weeks or until we receive at
least two candidates, whichever time is longer. Once at least two
candidates are chosen, we will ask them to produce a brief statement on
their plan for holding a conference, probably in 2014. During the
nomination stage and the statement process, emails may be sent to me at
lupke at wsu.edu. For the election, we will have two other scholars in the
field receive and count the votes separate from me, so as to preserve the
integrity of the process. This has been the custom since the inception of
the association.

The primary task of the president is to organize a major conference on
Chinese and Comparative Literature/Culture. There is no restriction on
where this conference can be held. It has been in North America several
times, Europe at least twice, the PRC at least four times, and now once in
Taiwan.

There are no resources in the association attached to the position of
president. There is no salary. There also are no membership dues. The
organization has done well despite a rather loosely conceived membership
base. However, serving as president is a wonderful way to network and meet
many people in the field. It has real attractions for someone who is
gregarious and wishes to contribute some service to the profession.
