Call for Papers

Diverse Paradigms of Asian Experiences and Cultural Studies

International Conference, June 29 - July 3,
2012, Tianjin, P.R. China

Currently due to the impact of increasing globalization, people from
different countries and regions start to have similar lifestyles. Yet as a
collection of local experiences, Asian languages, histories, customs, and
collective memories continue to display their own unique characteristics.
Therefore, it has become an essential task for Asian Cultural Studies to
build new research paradigms that both reflect Asian historical
experiences and are open to dialogue with the European tradition of
Cultural Studies. This conference aims to explore a wide range of issues
of Asian cultural studies from a multi-disciplinary perspective with
scholars from Japan, South Korea, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Specifically, we are looking for papers dealing with the following issues:

-Trans-lingual dialogue of Cultural Studies
-The uniqueness of Asian experiences and the construction of Asian
Cultural Studies paradigms
- Investigation of contemporary Asian cultures
- Reflection on Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean research paradigms of
traditional Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism
- Research on emerging popular cultures and youth subcultures in Asia

Other topics related to Asian cultural studies are also welcome. Please
send complete papers or abstracts before June 10, 2012 to one of the
following organisers of the conference:

Prof. Zhou Zhiqiang (bzzzq at nankai.edu.cn)
Prof. Tao Dongfeng (dftao2002 at yahoo.com.cn)

If you cannot provide a complete paper during the conference, please
submit it before August 1 at latest. Selected papers will be published in
the form of special journal issues and/or conference proceedings.

The conference will take place at Nankai University in Tianjin, close to
Beijing. Free accommodation during the conference will be provided to all
participants. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact
the conference organizers.
