One can interpret it as the CCP mocking the Nobel Prize committee for
awarding its peace prize to Obama in 2009. At least Putin isn't waging
wars in two foreign countries and supporting Israeli state terrorism. And
last, why does CCP being atheist have any relevance?

One might add that only a very talented satirist could improve on the NATO
intervention in Libya - bombing civilians to protect them, backing rebels
that carried out routine racist killings and sodomized the 70-odd-year-old
Gaddafi with a bayonet before shooting him without trial - all in the name
of human rights and democracy (while openly salivating at the prospect of
oil concessions).

By the way if you had read to the end of the Jonathan Watts article quoted
in the original post you would have learned that "Two months ago, the
ministry of culture distanced itself from the prize, disbanded the
organisation behind it, and associated with another similarly named award.
Although these setbacks looked likely to mark the end of the group, the
original organisers reformed in Hong Kong which is not bound by the same
rules as the mainland."

So it isn't at all clear that the atheistic tyranny - which has for some
years been dressing itself in the robes of traditional Chinese culture,
promoting not only Confucianism but also Daoism and Buddhism - was behind
this initiative.
