[Marstudent] Important Marion Campus Parking Notification

Dear Marion campus students,

Over the past few weeks I have been inundated with complaints from the staff and even other students about students parking in visitor and handicap areas.  I have written several citations in the past few weeks.  Two students were issued four tickets in the past month and a half...both were advised any subsequent violations will result in their vehicle being towed and impounded at their expense.

While I do not mind writing parking tickets, the number complaints I have been receiving requires me to spend much of my time writing parking tickets, which takes away from other important duties I should be attending to at both Marion Tech and Ohio State Marion.  To that end, I have instituted some new parking rules.

If you are parked in a handicap parking area and you are not permitted to park there I will no longer issue a $25 "campus" parking ticket.  You will now be issued a $250 ticket and will be required to appear in Marion Municipal Court.  If you are parking using another person's handicap tag, the tag will be confiscated.  Please allow those who really need these spaces to use them!

Third violations of ANY parking rules will result in your vehicle being towed at YOUR expense.  You will also be charged in Marion Municipal Court with the following violation:

4511.681 Parking on private property - prohibited acts.
(A) If an owner of private property posts on the property, in a conspicuous manner, a prohibition against parking on the property or conditions and regulations under which parking is permitted, no person shall do either of the following:
(1) Park a vehicle on the property without the owner's consent;
(2) Park a vehicle on the property in violation of any condition or regulation posted by the owner.
(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.

Please remember, once you are registered as a student, you may not park in the visitor parking...even to drop off a paper or see an advisor.

It is the goal of Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University to make their campuses welcoming to visitors.  This is very difficult if visitors can not park where they are allowed because students are using the parking spaces designated for visitors.
