Lack of any specific guidance on insulin or other types of pumps like hepatic or pain pumps, best to treat them as CIEDs when it comes to managing the patient for radiation. In therapy we have encountered insulin pumps that have potentially gotten close to 10Gy without any issue, after follow-up of several months.

In principle we apply our CIED protocol when a patient has a pump but we do not get as strict as we do for CIEDs. Being an electronic device shouldn't the insulin pump present the same issues with a CIED device for transient nature effects during the irradiation?
