Also, is there any science? Were these devices tested, like they are for MRI? Are there any published data?

Phillip and stick,

The guidance is one thing. I want to know what the mechanism of damage to the device is. I don't know the first thing about the construction or operation of an insulin pump, so I'm probably the most ignorant of the group. The FDA guidance implies that the devices are not at risk of being damaged by Dx x-ray (including CT) -- e.g. they indicate a low risk of damage. Do either of you know how these devices work and what component would be damaged by a Dx x-ray?

Jerry

Anyone have a policy for insulin pumps and sensors other than “taken them off” for CT they are willing to share? huge risk if they malfunction…possible death, so I get why folks defer to the vendor policies which don’t

huge risk if they malfunction…possible death, so I get why folks defer to the vendor policies which don’t appear to be actually tested inside a scanner.

I found this paper, link below. But it basically says listen to the vendors. It seems in practice, this would be complicated if we have to have a workflow where each device is looked up.
