[Intl_DxMedPhys] Old Film Disposal?

Hi all,

We just came across a box or two of old films in a lab, all exposed from the late '80s-early 90's. Our hazmat waste guys says if we can't recycle them, they need to be disposed as hazmat if they are over 5 mg/L of silver content.

Some of the recycler websites indicate around 1 troy ounce per 10 pounds of film. That's roughly 31 g per 10 pounds.

Anyone dealt with this? I doubt we have enough to make it worthwhile for a recycler (roughly $1 per gram bullion at the moment), and not sure how to estimate volume outside of measuring the dimensions of the stack and adding some allowance (30%?) for air gaps, etc.

This is a new one for me.

Thanks for any advice,

Michael
