[Heb-NACO] Putative title on t.p. verso

Unfortunately, the RDA instructions, as Jasmin has pointed out, do say to treat these titles as parallel titles.  I agree with Yossi that putting the English titles in the 245 as parallel titles is misleading, and it also is messy to have right to left and left to right scripts in one field, at least in our current OPACs.

I totally agree with Aaron on this and even go farther: I wouldn't have the English title in the 245 field at all, and just use the 246 field.

I think that having the English title in the 245 field will make the impression that the book is bi-lingual.

The 246 field with “$i Title on title page verso: $a xxxx “ brings the access of the English title and explains it.

I am for removing the added English title from the 245 field.

According to the RDA glossary and 2.3.3.1, “An alternative title in another language and/or script is treated as part of a parallel title proper.” Also there, “If: an original title is in a language different from that of a title proper and the title is presented as an equivalent to a title proper then: record it as a parallel title proper.” (Emphasis added.)

The title on t.p. verso is presented as an equivalent to the title proper; direct/literal translation is not required. One of the examples provided in the toolkit is “À bout de soufflé”, where title proper is “Breathless,” clearly not a literal translation. Given all this, the title on t.p. verso would be recorded in the 245 preceded by an =.

The Hebrew title information is from the title page.
On the t.p. verso, the Hebrew title information is again given as well as “An autobiography”

As the English “An autobiography” is not a translation of either $a or $b of the 245 field, I question whether it should be regarded as a parallel title.  While it would be recorded in a 246, perhaps as “$i Subtitle on title page verso: Autobiography” or in a note, it wouldn’t be in the 245 field preceded by an “=” sign.

Is there a reason to record this as a parallel title in the 245 field?
