[Heb-NACO] Please Submit Your Questions for the OCLC Update

The advantage of the 561 field is that you can enter it in OCLC and it transfers into the local system, but it does not remain on the master record. Same for 590. I guess I'm suggesting a 790.

I think that each library (copy cataloger) needs to remove the 7xx field if it is not relevant for them.

With rare books or unique collections it is a valid field if the Library (i.e. DLC) wants to put it there, but it is definitely a local field to that library.

I know of another library that collects rare/unique Israeli literature that adds a 730 field for the collection title with a $5[LibraryCode] at the end. It makes it easy to cuddle the material via WoldCat.

Here is an example: #16814707. Goodwin. Moses and Aaron. Has $5 DLC in the 710 field. If you export it to your local system what shows up in 710? I can’t do this experiment because it will go into the error file. Can you do the experiment for me?

For rare items only at Penn, we add a $5 PAU at the end of the 7xx field (see bibformats: $5=the institution to which the field applies). I also wish LC would do the same.

In RDA you can put a former owner in 561 field, but when you trace it in 700 field, it is no longer local information. Could there be a local 700 field (or local indicator) so that the name of the former owner only comes up in the local system and not in OCLC generally?

The opposite side of the coin is that many LC records have a 700 for the copy in LC that I have to delete in my record when I export it.
