I would take a different approach. Assuming that the three essays contained have been issued together in earlier editions I would invoke RDA 6.2.2.10.

Recording the Preferred Title for a Compilation of Works of One Person, Family, or Corporate Body
If a compilation of works is known by a title that is used in resources embodying that compilation or in reference sources, apply the instructions at 6.2.2.4 – 6.2.2.5 .

Since the contents were written before 1500 I would then go to 6.2.2.5.

Determine the title to be used as the preferred title for a work created before 1501 from modern reference sources. If the evidence of modern reference sources is inconclusive, use (in this order of preference):

a)

modern editions

b)

early editions

c)

manuscript copies.

Since the 1870s the compilation of the three works/essays have been variously issued such under such Hebrew titles as

1. Sheloshah sifre diḳduḳ (1870)
2. Sheloshah sifre diḳduḳ (1967, reprint of 1870 edition
3. Sheloshet ḥibure ha-diḳduḳ shel r. Yehudah Ḥayugʹ be-meḳoram ha-ʻArvi uba-targumam le-ʻIvrit ḥadashah

We don't have an Arabic title for the compilation so I think that we would have to use the Hebrew title. I would recommend using "Sheloshah sifre diḳduḳ."

Because this resource contains 2 expressions I would catalog it in RDA as:

100 1 Ḥayyuj, Judah ben David, ǂd ca. 945-ca. 1000,|eauthor.
245 10 Sheloshet ḥibure ha-diḳduḳ shel r. Yehudah Ḥayugʹ be-meḳoram ha-ʻArvi uba-targumam le-ʻIvrit ḥadashah ...

700 12 Ḥayyuj, Judah ben David, ǂd ca. 945-ca. 1000.|tSheloshah sifre diḳduk.|lArabic.
700 12 Ḥayyuj, Judah ben David, ǂd ca. 945-ca. 1000.|tSheloshah sifre diḳduk.|lHebrew.

We are not required to add the language to the access point for the work in it its original language, but I would recommend doing so here since the preferred title that has been created is not in the language of the original.

The record should also have an access point for the first or predominant work in the compilation as prescribed of LC-PCC PS 25.1.

A note describing the contents could be useful in this situation.

I have not dealt with a situation quite like this in my RDA cataloging workflow before. So i would be very happy to hear other cataloger's thoughts.

Looks like "Works" to me.  When in doubt, use "Works."  I mean, "Works. Selections," usually.

Ladies, HEB-NACO denizens:

Regarding the new list of official collective titles, I have a book in hand with the following title:

Sheloshet ḥibure ha-diḳduḳ shel R. Yehudah Ḥayugʹ be-meḳoram ha-ʻArvi uba-targumam le-ʻIvrit ḥadashah

my q: hibure = essays? works? something else?

Thanks in advance

B
