[Heb-NACO] rabbinic phrase

In rabbinic parlance, the author and his book are often identified, and the book is personified, so in that sense it would make sense for the Be'er ha-golah to be the armor/arms-bearer of the Shulhan arukh.

Yes, I was thinking first that it might be "armor bearer," and I thought of Rivkes as a squire following along after the knights Karo and Isserles! But I guess "tools" makes as much sense. But please let me know what you think about the grammar of

Karo ... Iserlis ... 'im nose kelehem ha-lo hu: be'er ha-golah meha-ga'on mo. h. Mosheh Rivkes, zatsal, mi-Vilna.

In the text, the commentary is titled "Be'er ha-golah." Does it make sense that the commentary, not the commentator (Rivkes), is called the "nose kelim"?

Thank you, Shunit and Barry, for your help.
Joan

Shalom
The simple linguistic meaning is the assistant, the one who carries (the tools). In the rabbinic literature Nose kelehem or Nose Ha-kelim are the commentators. It is a phrase used very often especially with commentaries to Maimonides.
