Hi all,

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying these introductions! What a fantastic opportunity to hear about all the amazing work that you are all doing! Thank you so much for taking the time to share with all of us!

My name is Zachary J.A. Rondinelli (he/him) and I am a Ph.D. student in Educational Studies at Brock University in St. Catharines, ON Canada. My primary areas of research interests are on multimodality, comics theory, reading and literacy studies. My future dissertation hopes to bring all of these interests together through participatory action research and comics-specific visual methods to examine the nature of reading comics in the classroom, as well as extend current research on how the medium sponsors multimodal literacy development for students. I am also proud to be serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Graduate Student Caucus of the Comics Studies Society<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://gradcaucus.comicssociety.org/2020/08/10/meet-the-board-zachary-j-a-rondinelli-secretary-treasurer/__;!!KGKeukY!isIUK2_f0w96x9UPzrwQKKnAtfplC16M8BJLWq1U2sL-DAB9G4FhdRU6eq8RAAAh_-2YzopZEDp5$ > this term!

Hi everyone! My name is Patrick Holt (he/him), and I'm a public librarian in Durham, North Carolina, where I'm lucky enough to be the lead organizer of our annual Durham Comics Fest<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https*3A*2F*2Furldefense.com*2Fv3*2F__https*3A*2F*2Fdurhamcomicsfest.org*2F__*3B!!KGKeukY!iA0UmqfJQoFpGjnZFv2Ba5EoHCkgDT3TzkSMXXh6lfUJjaO6l53wjpqqyU1-4vo7Si3VlgDf2aBH*24&data=04*7C01*7C*7C8d8ad2a92f7d49ff84f808d88bc98134*7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa*7C1*7C0*7C637413044851013521*7CUnknown*7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0*3D*7C1000&sdata=3r2NZpmWnUD8nOmLKSKkXEkSk0glAcdkr79gnYvemTY*3D&reserved=0__;JSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSU!!KGKeukY!isIUK2_f0w96x9UPzrwQKKnAtfplC16M8BJLWq1U2sL-DAB9G4FhdRU6eq8RAAAh_-2YzkJiPiyj$ > and a lively local cartoonist support network<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https*3A*2F*2Furldefense.com*2Fv3*2F__https*3A*2F*2Fdurhamcomicsfest.org*2Ftccn*2F__*3B!!KGKeukY!iA0UmqfJQoFpGjnZFv2Ba5EoHCkgDT3TzkSMXXh6lfUJjaO6l53wjpqqyU1-4vo7Si3VllK6ELaB*24&data=04*7C01*7C*7C8d8ad2a92f7d49ff84f808d88bc98134*7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa*7C1*7C0*7C637413044851023518*7CUnknown*7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0*3D*7C1000&sdata=mw05FtrtWey2sbbfQPfTETTpt0UGeonqc0mzWb7QLqo*3D&reserved=0__;JSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUl!!KGKeukY!isIUK2_f0w96x9UPzrwQKKnAtfplC16M8BJLWq1U2sL-DAB9G4FhdRU6eq8RAAAh_-2YzmFlVYdN$ >. That all probably makes me the most out-of-place here in the CSS ranks, but I've been made to feel very welcome all the same :)

For all the amazing work that public libraries have done advocating for comics readers, I've sometimes felt a bit let down by the discourse in that chunk of the profession. Engaging with comics scholarship -- history, theory, criticism -- has been a big part of my trying to amend that in my little corner of the world, and it informs my support of readers and creators on a daily basis. I also do occasional writing about comics scholarship for librarians at 741.5 And Then Some<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https*3A*2F*2Furldefense.com*2Fv3*2F__https*3A*2F*2Fwww.7415andthensome.com*2F__*3B!!KGKeukY!iA0UmqfJQoFpGjnZFv2Ba5EoHCkgDT3TzkSMXXh6lfUJjaO6l53wjpqqyU1-4vo7Si3VliRloczf*24&data=04*7C01*7C*7C8d8ad2a92f7d49ff84f808d88bc98134*7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa*7C1*7C0*7C637413044851033510*7CUnknown*7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0*3D*7C1000&sdata=JV6Ft31g9TrINYdwPTPSaMGrIXtHRwEKReinpABh2R8*3D&reserved=0__;JSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSU!!KGKeukY!isIUK2_f0w96x9UPzrwQKKnAtfplC16M8BJLWq1U2sL-DAB9G4FhdRU6eq8RAAAh_-2Yzh2v798I$ > in an effort to bring the two worlds together a bit. So thank you, scholars, and keep up the good work!
