Hi All,

I research and teach in feminist philosophies and cultural studies. My work explores the politics around representation of gender, race, and sexuality in visual culture, particularly in comics and film. At present, I am focusing on female-led superhero comics. Using feminist philosophies as a lens, I conduct close textual readings of female-led superhero comics in conjunction with discourse analysis of social norms of identity to explore the ways comics adhere to or depart from normative ideals, and whether certain texts have the potential to contribute to a more liberatory imaginary.

I have been in Texas for the last five years and will be located in the Bay Area, California going forward--would love to know who else is in the area!

Hi everyone,

I'm a Latin/x American comics scholar who focuses on representations of women and girls in said comics. I've also been exploring Latin/x American comics as a form of transamerican artivism for the past couple years. I live and teach in Iowa at a small liberal arts school and am currently the First VP of the Comics Studies Society. Always happy to answer any questions (as I'm sure are my colleagues) about what that work is like from anyone who might be interested in running for a position on our board some time in the future.

Hi,

I'm new to the list and didn't know if new members introduced themselves or not.

My academic training is as a medievalist, but I mostly work on the medieval in modern popular culture, especially comics. My main research interests are in representations of the Arthirian legend in comics, but I've also looked at depictions of Beowulf, Frankenstein, and (just recently) Dracula.
