We started the material about solids last week. This Tuesday, today, we'll
start the material about the various types of solids and their structures.
This can be a bit problematic since I'm allowing the use of different editions
of the textbook. The following explains what I'll be doing. I will mention this
in lecture again today as well.

We will be covering ch 11 in all editions. For the 12th - 14th editions we
won't be covering section 11.7 (liquid crystals) in those editions. Also,
in the 12th-14th editions there's a "Chemistry Put to Work" box about
ionic liquids. I will mention these in class but you won't be responsible for
anything specific about these substances.

We won't be using ch 12 in any of the editions. The information we'll
be covering for solids will be from ch 11 of the 11th edition. If you are
using the 12th - 14th editions I've uploaded the material about solids
in ch 11 from the 11th edition to Carmen. It's under the "Modules" link
in the menu and then go to the "Lecture" module and then
"Chapter 12: Solids - Structure and Bonding". You'll find the 11th edition
textbook material related to solids there. You will also find the end-of-chapter
exercises from the 11th edition there as well. You can use the 11th
edition publisher's solutions manual for these (found on Carmen by going to
the "Homework (End-of-Chapter Exercises) and Solutions Manuals" module
and then "Publisher's Solution Manuals").

There's also details about what is covered in the various editions on my
class web page (not Carmen) at the "Notes" link.
