Practice Exam for MT 1

There's two "versions", one on Carmen and a paper version. They are the same except in the way
they're presented.

The paper version of the practice exam is up on my personal class web page at the "Practice Exams"
link. Other information is given there as well.

There's solutions to the practice exam. You have to scroll down the page to see the solutions.
There's a link right above the letter answers. I've worked everything out in detail with explanations.

If you take the paper version you should time yourself. Follow the directions at the link.

The Carmen version is available now. It differs slightly from the paper version. There are two
questions which are multiple choice in the paper version but are numeric fill-in-the blank in the
Carmen version. They are numeric (calculation) questions in both versions. Do NOT use scientific
notation. The OSU version of Canvas (Carmen) doesn't use sci. not. Do NOT use units for these
two questions. You need to use the correct sig. fig. and rounding for these two questions.

You will have similar questions on the actual midterm. There may also be multi-answer, dropdown,
fill-in-the blank, etc, questions on the miderm.

There's another very important difference. The paper version is in order of the chapters in the book,
starting with Ch 1 and ending with Ch 4. You can also skip a question and go back to it. You may
not want to do that based on the next bit of information and instead take it in order.

In the Carmen version the questions are randomized. You can move backward in the exam. You'll
get one question at a time. If you get stuck or aren't able to get the correct answer for a numeric
multiple choice question or aren't sure about any question don't spend more than a couple of minutes.
Then take a guess and move on. You have about 2.5 min per question on average. Some will take
more or less time than this.

To take the Carmen version go to the "Practice Exams" module in Carmen. There's an extensive set
of instructions and information there. Read them thoroughly before clicking on the link at the bottom
which will take you to the exam.

You will be able to take the Carmen version (and of course paper version) multiple times. However,
that's not real useful. You're better off figuring out which ones you missed or had problems with,
and this includes ones you guessed at but got correct (you got lucky), and then going to the book at
looking at the section which applies to the question and then do some end-of-chapter problems which
apply to that section. I also suggest you look at the solution to each and every question, even the ones
you got correct just to make sure you got them correct for the right reason.

Try to take this before the review on Sunday.
