Proposals Sought for the 2016 Outreach and Engagement Forum
Poster proposals are being accepted for the 4th Annual Outreach and Engagement Forum.  The forum is an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to interact with Ohio State's outreach and engagement community, share work, and make connections with potential collaborators.  Those interested in displaying a poster should complete the submission form by Monday, February 29th.  The forum takes place Tuesday, May 3rd, 1-3pm in the Ohio Union Archie Griffin Ballroom.

2016 Service-Learning Recognition Awards Still Accepting Applications
The Offices of Outreach and Engagement, International Affairs, Service-Learning, Student Life, and Undergraduate Education have joined together to recognize faculty, staff, students, and community partners with the University Outreach and Engagement Recognition Awards program.  Awards in the emerging and distinguished service-learning category will be accepting nominations until Wednesday, March 2nd.

Opportunities from IARSLCE
The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) has announced that proposals are now being accepted for their 2016 conference.  The conference will take place September 26-28, 2016, in New Orleans.  The theme of this year's conference is Reaffirming Our Purpose, Bridging Our Understandings & Broadening Our Collective Impact.  Proposals are due March 22, 2016.  Travel funding may be available through the outreach and engagement travel grants program.

The International Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IJRSLCE) is currently accepting manuscripts for consideration for the fourth issue of the journal to be published in fall 2016.  IJRSLCE is the annual, peer-reviewed, online journal of the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE).  Its mission is to disseminate rigorous scholarship on service-learning and community engagement, including research, theory, research reviews, and book reviews.  They are seeking articles from different countries and disciplines and representing a range of methodologies including community-engaged scholarship to represent the breadth of scholarship in the field.  Submission deadline is April 15, 2016.

Freshmen Student Activism and Civic Engagement Reaches an All-Time High
The UCLA-based CIRP Freshman Survey, now in its 50th year, collects extensive information from incoming first-year students before they start college classes. The 2015 study surveyed 141,189 full-time, first-year students from around the U.S., and found that interest in political and civic engagement has reached the highest levels since the study began 50 years ago. Much interest has been directed at the increase from 5% to 8% of incoming students saying there is a very good chance that they would participate in student protests. But we also find a continued rise in already strong commitment to engaging with their communities. Nearly three-quarters (74.6%) of freshmen in 2015 consider helping others in difficulty to be a "very important" or "essential" personal objective.
