2015 Outreach & Engagement Award Winners Announced
On behalf of The Ohio State University, the offices of Outreach and Engagement, International Affairs, Service-Learning, Student Life, and Undergraduate Education are pleased to announce the 2015 Outreach and Engagement Recognition Award winners.  Recipients include the K-12 Engineering Outreach program (Distinguished Community Engagement), the Haiti Empowerment Project (Distinguished International Engagement), and Corrections: An Inside-Out Course (Distinguished Service-Learning).  All awardees will be recognized at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 6 prior to the Patterson Lecture.

Webinar Brown Bag: Getting Service-Learning Research and Community-Engaged Scholarship Published
The Office of Service-Learning will be hosting a viewing brown bag for the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement's (IARSLCE) Advancing Research Webinar,  Getting Service-Learning Research and Community-Engaged Scholarship Published presented by Jeffrey Howard.  We will be screening this webinar at 1pm on April 21 in the Hale Center, Hall of Fame/Room 101.  The webinar aims to build the capacity of faculty, scholar-practitioners, graduate students, and community partners as co-educators to be successful in publishing their work related to service-learning, community-based research, and other manifestations of community-engaged scholarship.  Jeffrey Howard is the director of faculty development at DePaul University's Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning.

Course Spotlight

BUSMHR 5530-0010: Value Creation in the Social Enterprise

This course focuses on completing a group project or business plan for a local non-profit or social enterprise.  Students will understand the theory of social enterprise (how non-profits can amplify their impact using business principles); develop interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; identify problems and opportunities and creative solutions; and interact directly with individuals in a non-profit organization or social enterprise.

Matinees that Matter Series

The Ohio State University Medical Center's departments of Community Development, Leadership Academy, and Diversity Council present a purposeful lunch-and-learn series with video and discussion.  Matinees that Matter highlights the ethnic, racial, and economic disparities of health care and provides a deeper exploration of the ways in which social conditions affect population health.  The series takes place the third Thursday of each month, from noon to 1:30pm in 473 West 12th Avenue, Room 170.  The next feature on Thursday, May 21, will be The Somewhere Between, profiling Chinese adoptees in contemporary America.
