2012 Ohio State Service Award Honorees On May 16th, we were able to recognize students, faculty, staff, and community partners who have made amazing contributions to service at Ohio State. Request for proposals: 2012 Service-Learning Course Grants The Service-Learning Initiative, with support from Undergraduate Education and Outreach and Engagement, is announcing its 2012 Service-Learning Grants program. Grants are available to any OSU faculty or staff that will be teaching or facilitating a service-learning course in the 2012-13 academic year(s). Funding is available to support course development and enrichment, course assessment, and student philanthropy. Proposals due June 15th, 2012. Workshop Proposals sought for SOCHE 2012 Teaching and Learning Conference  This conference will take place on November 8th and 9th at Wright State University in Dayton, OH. The planning committee calls on scholars, faculty, instructional support staff, academic leaders, and all higher education practitioners and thought leaders to propose sessions that create opportunities for deep discussion and showcase teaching and learning practices from Ohio and beyond. Proposals are sought on Democracy and Education, Student Diversity, Transformative Technology, and Workforce Development. Proposals are due September 4th, 2012. Kansas Campus Compact Seeks Executive Director  As a part of the national Campus Compact, the Kansas Campus Compact, one of 35 state compacts nationwide, is an organization of college presidents who have come together out of a shared commitment to the public service mission of higher education and the value of integrating such service into undergraduate learning. The Executive Director will be the primary administrator for the organization and the essential link to the national network. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience in higher education or non-profit sector. Call for Proposals on General Education and Assessment  The Network for Academic Renewal Conference will take place February 28-March 2, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts. The conference will follow four themes: Principles of Excellence:  Putting Learning at the Center; Pedagogy and Practice:  New Modalities at the Intersections; High-Impact Assessment:  Using Evidence to Advance Quality; and Inclusive Frameworks for Change:  Engaging Students, Faculty, Campus, and Beyond. The conference invites proposals that address work that has proven effective in reframing general education to raise the bar for all students and to assure that all students achieve the Essential Learning Outcomes necessary to compete and succeed in a technology-advanced, globally interdependent, and democratic society. Roots and Roofs in Weinland Park Residents and community organizations in the Weinland Park neighborhood are planning "Roots & Roofs," a showcase of housing opportunities and a spring clean-up and planting of flowers on Saturday, May 19th, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The central gathering place for "Roots & Roofs" will be Godman Guild Association, 303 E. Sixth Avenue. Colorful yard signs will mark the housing sites throughout the neighborhood. Neighbors and other community volunteers also will meet at Godman Guild to prepare community gardens, plant flowers and pick up litter in Weinland Park.  Volunteer teams will depart at 9:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. This program is presented with support from OSU Extension and the OSU Poverty Solutions Collaborative.
