Request for Proposals: 2012 Service-Learning Course Grants The Service-Learning Initiative, with support from the Office of Undergraduate Education and the Office of Outreach and Engagement, is pleased to announce our 2012 Service-Learning Grants program. These grants are available to any Ohio State University faculty or staff that will be teaching or facilitating a service-learning course in the 2012-2013 academic year(s). Funding is available to support Course Development and Enrichment, Course Assessment, and Student Philanthropy. Interested parties are invited to join us for one of two grants workshops on May 31st and June 1st. Proposals are due June 15th, 2012.

CUMU Conference Call for Proposals: "Working Together Works: Partnering for Progress"  The 18th Annual CUMU Conference, hosted by The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, from October 13-16, 2012, will spotlight the theme of "Working Together Works: Partnering for Progress."  This conference will explore how working together with all types of partners can augment the impact of a university and open new bridges to success for the future. Partnerships in the areas of enriching student learning, increasing faculty roles and impact both in the academic setting and in the community, augmenting the outreach of the university, creating projects, and developing academic opportunities that respond to and involve the local community are just a few examples of presentations which suitable for this theme. The conference will provide a forum for students, faculty and administrators to share ideas, experiences, and make recommendations concerning the leadership role that metropolitan universities must assume in creating the future. IARSLCE 2012 Conference Registration now open The 12th Annual IARSLCE Conference, "Connected Knowing", will be held in Baltimore, MD  on September 23rd-25th 2012. This conference seeks to break new ground by focusing attention on transformative learning partnerships in research and scholarship on community engagement, in research with community partners, and in the kinds of connections those learning partnerships leverage and facilitate. Events

Hot Moments in the Classroom On Wednesday (5/16) from 1:30-3 p.m. in 150 Younkin Success Center, the InterACT Theatre Troupe, sponsored by UCAT, will perform a piece that explores methods for facilitating such charged moments. This interactive workshop will provide the opportunity to actively explore some options with the InterACT characters. Participants will develop strategies for effectively defusing hot moments and turning them into productive learning opportunities.
