[Ohiogift] Looking for PD opportunities this summer? (all apply to the TAG Endorsement)

Dear friends,

Summer coursework provides opportunities for professional learning in gifted education. Chautauqua allows those earning the TAG Endorsement to complete half of the coursework in one summer, and finish through Chautauqua the next summer. Anyone who wants to complete the endorsement in one summer will find more than enough coursework for that. Coursework offered throughout the year offers opportunities for Professional Learning Communities (and the Center will provide 50% tuition scholarships to any educators from the same school using the class for that purpose).

The 12-semester-hour endorsement requires at least

  *   one credit in the Psychology strand (understanding more about advanced learners' needs);
  * one credit in the Programming strand (meeting their needs); and
  * one credit in the Administrative strand (a broad view of requirements in gifted education).

Although not listed, the practicum experience (EDTL:4188 or EDTL:4189) is available (every semester); find the dates in MyUI.uiowa.edu<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://myui.uiowa.edu/my-ui/courses/dashboard.page__;!!KGKeukY!1vr-oRyXjl75K1lCxOnDhqstwo71yD1NCNgaqMgEDtp8cYkbPeHfvIQb9hfYFYQlCREblTbKqx7LFMLen-h3A5dAf-5JkQ$ >.

Chautauqua

Chautauqua was an adult education movement in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, bringing Americans together to learn and enjoy time spent with one another. After two years of hosting Chautauqua only online during the pandemic, the Belin-Blank Center is looking forward to hosting participants who want to participate in person, as well as those who choose to participate via Zoom.

Six one-semester-hour classes begin over two weeks in July. Each class meets (in person and via Zoom for those who prefer) for two days and continues online with readings, an online discussion or two, and a final project. All classes end on or before August 5, the final day of the last summer session. Those who are interested in expanding their professional expertise in gifted education may enroll in the combination of classes that makes sense for them, from one to all six classes. Look for more information at belinblank.org/Chautauqua<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/educators/endorsement/default.aspx*chautauqua__;Iw!!KGKeukY!1vr-oRyXjl75K1lCxOnDhqstwo71yD1NCNgaqMgEDtp8cYkbPeHfvIQb9hfYFYQlCREblTbKqx7LFMLen-h3A5dTXBFbuQ$ >.

The six classes fulfill the strands required for the endorsement in the State of Iowa:

  *   the Psychology strand (understanding the nature and needs of gifted/talented learners);
  *   the Programming strand (appropriately differentiated programming/coursework for talent development);
  * the Administrative strand (administrative issues in the field that school personnel might now know).

All classes are one semester hour unless otherwise indicated.
