Five teachers named TORCH honorees
Five teachers were surprised virtually with news they were selected as 2021 Teachers of Ohio Representing Character and Heart (TORCH) honorees. These honorees model strong personal character and concern for their students, colleagues and communities. |

Special Education Profile updated with additional indicators
The Department has updated the 2020-2021 Special Education Profile for each school district and community school to include additional indicators. The new indicators include four-year graduation rates, dropout rates, preschool outcomes and more. |

Career-technical education Equity for Each competitive grant returns
The Equity for Each competitive grant is offering awards from $25,000 to $200,000 to help applicants and the Department identify and promote promising best practices for equitable supports for students in special populations in career-technical education. Apply by May 31. |

Now available: Ohio Principal Evaluation System 2.0 draft framework and model
The Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES) 2.0 draft framework and model are available now. Districts may consider using the system in the 2021-2022 school year if they also are implementing the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES) 2.0. |

Apply to serve on the Gifted Advisory Council
Individuals with an interest in the development and implementation of state policies that affect identification, instruction, professional supports, leadership and funding for gifted education are invited to apply to serve on the Gifted Advisory Council. Applications are due June 18. |

Kindergarten Readiness Assessment data appeal window open through June 18
Starting today, districts may appeal their Fiscal Year 2021 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment data. The appeal window closes on June 18. |

Career-technical middle school programming waivers due Sept. 30
Districts that choose not to provide career-technical education programming to students enrolled in grades 7 and 8 must complete steps to opt out by Sept. 30. |
