The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center (MVESC) is a regional resource center for schools in Coshocton, Hocking, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry and Tuscarawas counties and beyond. Covering more than 2,400 square miles, MVESC helps nearly 31,000 students learn and about 2,000 teachers teach in the largest service region of all 52 ESCs in Ohio.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.  Licensure or endorsement in Gifted Education, master's degree preferred
  2.  Valid Ohio Administrative or Supervisory license preferred
  3.  Three years gifted teaching experience and/or coordinating gifted programming
  4.  Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
  5.  Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's license or have transportation to off-site job-related functions
  6.  Evidence of experience with professional development presentations
  7.  Administrative experience preferred
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under administrative direction, provides leadership services in gifted education and regular education in the interpretation of gifted program standards, identification of students, program/curriculum development, program evaluation, direct student programming, coordination of services between gifted education and regular education, facilitation of professional development opportunities, consultation and advocacy of appropriate services for all K-12 students

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)

  1.  Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  2.  Consult with school personnel regarding gifted education issues in district strategic planning processes and the development of school improvement plans
  3.  Assist school personnel in the on-going evaluation of the effectiveness of gifted education services, including input from parents of students who are gifted
  4.  Consult with school personnel about ways to develop and adapt curriculum, materials and teaching strategies
  5.  Provide high quality professional development aligned to the eight gifted competencies in the gifted rule for gifted personnel, regular classroom teachers, administrators and parents
  6.  Coordinate networking meetings for teachers and coordinators of the gifted as needed
  7.  Assist in the identification of students who are gifted and assist in the placement of students who are gifted in appropriate educational services and settings
  8.  Attend professional meetings and conferences and disseminate information with MVESC department members and Networking Councils upon request
  9.  Provide leadership in nurturing and enhancing positive school-community relations by serving as a liaison with community agencies, business and industry, higher education, and cultural institutions
  10. Assist school personnel in ensuring that documents required in the gifted rule regarding gifted identification procedures and written criteria for placement in gifted services are accurate and accessible to parents and other stakeholders
  11. Serve as a liaison between local school districts and the Ohio Department of Education, Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center, Ohio Association of Gifted Children, and Zane Trace Consortium for the Gifted and state and federal legislators on issues relative to gifted education
  12. Provide staff development responsibilities as assigned
  13. Accept assignments that require travel at the regional, state and national level that may require staying overnight(s)
  14. Assume responsibility for professional growth and development, keeping current in literature, research and instructional techniques
  15. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
  16. Maintain required license(s)
  17. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
