Ann Sheldon has put a summary of SB 216 on the OAGC site. (http://www.oagc.com/files/Ohio%20Public%20School%20Deregulation%20Act%20Summary%20of%20Items.pdf) she also has put a lot of info in her advocacy updates (curable on the OAGC page under advocacy and the Facebook page). The biggest concerns are the elimination of the gifted PD requirement for classroom teachers serving gifted kids (just added in the operating standards adopted in March) and the ability of a district to assign anyone to teach any subject regardless of licensure. There are a few others, such as the CCP textbook charges, etc. Yes, people can email the Education committee in the senate and their senator and provide testimony at the hearings that may still come (hearing was also yesterday, but there were more witnesses than time available). Ann gives the info on who to contact and what to say in her advocacy info.

There may be other changes (not mentioned) that have an impact on gifted ed programs across the state. Does anyone have insights or observations regarding Senate Bill 216, which has legislation purportedly designed to reduce state education regulations? Is there anything parents and/or educators can do to be heard?
