Culinary, History, and Cultural Walking Tour of Chinatown and Little Italy, New York City
Ahoy New York Tours and Tasting offers a walking tour of New York City's Chinatown and Little Italy. This tour is suited for student groups studying history, geography, immigrant culture and culinary arts. Groups will discover these two nostalgic neighborhoods and experience their history, culture, and taste ethnic foods. Students will be sure to discover secrets of the city, historic parks, and exquisite NYC architecture.
The licensed tour guides are sure to interact with the students to ensure that this is a learning opportunity. There are visuals, such as maps and historical images and a list of book recommendations to tie into the theme of culinary history. The tour covers the history of Italian and Chinese immigration, their arrival to the United States and their culinary and historic influence to their respective neighborhoods.
Food tastings may include: fresh homemade mozzarella with prosciutto, fresh pasta, imported chesses and olives, cannoli, sit-down dim sum experience with traditional tea, authentic Chinese dumplings and a Chinese pastry.
A recent review posted on Trip Advisor from a High School International Club located in Long Island, New York:"I am a high school teacher and advisor of our school's International Club. I worked with Alana to arrange a 2 hour food tasting and cultural walking tour of Little Italy for our club. Her communication of the details of the trip was great, from the initial phone call to the various emails leading up to the day of the tour. She also asked us in advance about any food allergies the students had so that she could accommodate every person for the tastings. Upon arrival in Little Italy, both she and the other guide, Liz, were there to greet us. We were ushered out of the cold and into a private room of Little Italy's most famous bakery for a fresh and delicious cannoli tasting along with a fascinating history overview of the area and the bakery. The students were all engaged and interested in the information the guides shared with us. From there, we made several other interesting stops -- mainly to mom and pop shops, some of which have been around for over 100 years. Ahoy selects only the finest authentic establishments to visit. When we entered each shop, the fresh tastings were ready and waiting for us thanks to the detailed planning of Ahoy."

Laurel Hill Cemetery
Laurel Hill was founded in 1836 as the nation's first architecturally designed cemetery. In 1998, it became the first cemetery in the United States to be honored as a National Historic Landmark.
Numerous prominent people who impacted the histories of our city and nation now rest at Laurel Hill, including inventors, industrialists, politicians and war heroes. The site's beautiful green space is further complemented by its breathtaking art, sculpture and architecture. Nestled on a scenic bluff high above the Schuylkill River, the site also affords spectacular views that can't be found elsewhere. These are just some of the many attributes that render Laurel Hill Cemetery an unmatched destination.
From its inception, Laurel Hill was intended to be as much a place of rest for the dead as that of recreation and education for the living. Picnics, strolls, carriage rides and sightseeing were popular pastimes in Laurel Hill's early days. Today, the site remains true to its original purpose, open daily with free admission, and welcoming tourists, joggers, bicyclists and dog walkers. Laurel Hill also offers unique public tours and events throughout the year, and has established itself as a trailblazer in providing new definitions and expanded reuses for cemeteries around the world.
