[Ohiogift] IB (Diploma) vs AP

Hi - I lurk around on this listserve also but don't often comment. I guess
it depends on what your son is looking to get out of the experience. I'm an
IB coordinator at an elementary school, so I am familiar with the program
but only slightly familiar with the high school version (Diploma Program).
If your son wants college credits out of the way, then he probably wants to
go with AP because from what I've heard colleges are more likely to accept
it.

IB is kind of like liberal arts. Its good for gifted kids conceptually but
may not be as good for a kid into the hard sciences. I hope this info helps.

Hello everyone:

I’ve been lurking for years and appreciate all the information this group
has provided.  Now I have a question of my own.  If I have a son who is
interested in Engineering and is identified as gifted, should we consider
the IB program or the AP program for his high school years.  He is
currently in 8th grade.
