Hi Jennifer:

Kansas State offers many opportunities for students to learn about personal finances with some campus areas requiring these skills, though it is not yet required across the entire institution. Here are some of the items we offer:

1. PFP 675 Field Study in Family Economics, 1-3 credit hour options, course used for training peer financial counselors that teaches them the skills necessary to provide peer-to-peer financial education outreach in our Powercat Financial Counseling<http://www.ksu.edu/pfc> program. The training is mandatory for peer financial counselors but receiving academic credit is optional. Most want the experience on their resume as job-related skills rather than academic credit, but a credit option has been available for them since 2010.

2. PFP 101 Money 101, 1 credit hour online course providing an introduction and tools to assist students in developing beginning personal finance skills such as budgeting, saving and managing credit (popular course with our student athletes).

3. PFP 105 Introduction to Personal Finance, 3 credit hour course with a freshman/sophomore section, reviews personal and family money management strategies including credit, financial ratios, investing, taxes, estate planning, insurance, etc.

4. SALT, www.saltmoney.org<http://www.saltmoney.org>, Kansas State sponsors this online financial tool and its educational debt management services for all students and alumni. A SALT membership includes the SALT Courses which are lessons with pre and post-tests on topics such as budgeting, credit management, student loans, taxes, etc. These lessons are used as assignments in some of the courses mentioned above, First Year Experience classes, and academic professional advantage programs. Subject: [Natfinwellness] Required Financial Wellness Classes
We are currently pursuing creating a required financial literacy/personal finance course; I was wondering if any schools currently have a required financial literacy or personal financial wellness type class? If so can you share with me the name of the class, number of credits and topics covered?

Thank you!
