Jennifer,

I am the Financial Literacy Educator at the University of MN Duluth. We do
not have a mandatory financial literacy requirement at this time. This
semester however, I created a two-credit financial literacy peer mentor
program <http://z.umn.edu/fpmp>.

I selected ten juniors with high academic achievement and am training them
on personal finance topics (I use the iGrad curriculum and supplement with
tools I have created in my financial literacy program;
<http://z.umn.edu/umdllas> I use the NEFE evaluation toolkit for
assessment). My coteacher provides instruction on how to mentor. After a
month of coursework the students are paired with one mentee and will guide
them through the same personal finance topics they went through (ten
meetings over the course of the semester). I am focusing on financial
behavior and attitudes, SMART goals, spending, financial aid basics, loan
basics (limited to vehicles), renting, and renter's insurance.

Best of luck as you explore this important idea in higher education!

Niki
