Dartmouth position
Open Rank Academic Appointment, Chinese Language and Literature, Dartmouth College<
The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Literatures invites applications for a position in Chinese Language and Literature. This is an open rank search, with the appointment to be made at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. Appointment will become effective July 1, 2016, with teaching duties beginning in September 2016. Applicants for this position must have native or near native proficiency in English and Modern Standard Chinese, and a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment.
The field of specialization is modern/contemporary literature, with film as a subfield, or traditional fiction (and/or drama or criticism). Scholars of Digital Humanities with expertise in the above areas are also encouraged to apply. The candidate should have a distinguished research profile (for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor ranks) or demonstrate the potential for such (for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank). It is our hope that the appointee will share our vision of treating language and literature courses as integrated components of an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. Candidates should have a commitment to foreign language instruction, being able to offer advanced courses in Chinese, as well as join the rotation for directing the annual twelve-week Summer Foreign Study Program in Beijing.
Applicants should submit via Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/31838) the following: cover letter, curriculum vitae, and writing sample (about 25 pages). Three letters of recommendation should be submitted to the Interfolio account separately.
The review of applications will begin on November 1, 2015. Preliminary interviews will be conducted via Skype. Questions should be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Professor Wen Xing, at: Wen.Xing at Dartmouth.EDU
Dartmouth College is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with a strong commitment to diversity. In that spirit, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from a broad spectrum of people, including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, veterans or any other legally protected group.
