Asian Cinemas in a Global Context
The Oberlin College Department of English, East Asian Studies and Cinema Studies Programs, and Oberlin Shansi are pleased to invite you to join an exciting series of events on campus this spring from March 12 to 15, 2015.
This includes a symposium on Asian Cinemas in a Global Context, two distinguished lectures, and two screenings. The symposium has been organized in conjunction with The Oberlin Lectures in English and American Literature and the Oberlin Shansi Jacobson-Cocco Distinguished Lecture.
Highlights include:
·       A talk by Tom Gunning, Why Cinema Has Not Yet Been Invented on March 13
·       A presentation by Taiwanese filmmaker Ho Chao-ti, Globalization from a Local Lens: Creative Conceptions of a Taiwanese Director, on March 14
·       Panel discussions on Asian Cinemas in a Global Context on March 14 and 15
·       Screenings of two documentary films by Ho Chao-ti: Sock n’ Roll and My Fancy High Heels on March 12 and 13
