Wang Meng and Uyghur language (2,3)
Wang Meng’s English was conversational at the time he was minister of culture (1986-89). He would pepper his press conferences with English phrases and I conversed with him in English. He was a resident at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 1980. I don’t know about his fluency in Uighur, but have sent a query. I’ll report back what i’m told.

Yes, he speaks and reads Uyghur language, also a little Mongolian.
